Configure outbound mail: platform vs custom SMTP

Outbound email can be sent using edoro's own mail servers, your Gmail or Microsoft account, or your own custom SMTP server. This article covers configuring each option.

Manage this from Admin Console → Mail Settings → SMTP Settings.

Sending methods

  • Default SMTP — uses edoro's own servers with zero configuration. This is free for a 14-day trial period; a banner shows the days remaining, and once the trial expires you must connect one of the other methods to keep sending email.
  • Gmail — click Connect with Google to authorize your Google account in a popup window. Once connected, select it as the active sending method.
  • Microsoft — click Connect with Microsoft to authorize your Microsoft account the same way.
  • Custom SMTP — send from your own mail server (see fields below). A link to create a free smtp2go account is offered if you don't have an SMTP server handy.

Click a method's tile to make it active. Either OAuth account can be disconnected from its tile, which also switches the active method back to Default SMTP if it was selected.

Outgoing email identity

For every method except Gmail and Microsoft, set:

  • Sender name (required) — must contain at least one letter or number.
  • Sender email — locked to the platform's address while Default SMTP is active; editable under Custom SMTP.
  • Reply-to (optional) — a separate address replies are sent to.

Custom SMTP fields

When Custom SMTP is selected, fill in:

  • Host and Port (default 587)
  • Encryption — None, TLS, SSL, or STARTTLS
  • Username and Password

Add a footer with your company name, address, and any required legal text (GDPR/CAN-SPAM). This field is disabled while Default SMTP is active.

Click Save changes to persist your settings. See Test your custom SMTP connection for verifying a connection before relying on it.
