Configure version-upload behavior (keep approval vs restart stage)

When a new asset version is uploaded mid-workflow, you can configure whether the existing approval is kept or the stage restarts. This article covers configuring version-upload behavior.

Where to find it

This setting only applies to Approval stages — it's shown at the bottom of the Activate panel, under "What happens when a new version is uploaded?" It isn't shown for Production stages, since production stages aren't approved in the same sense.

The two options

  • Skip — keep the previous approval; the stage doesn't re-run when a new version arrives.
  • Rerun — always restart this stage fresh when a new version is uploaded, so reviewers evaluate the new version from scratch.

New stages default to Skip. If you switch a stage's type from Approval to Production and back, this setting resets to Skip — a "Rerun" choice made while it was an approval stage is not preserved across the switch, since the option isn't visible (or meaningful) while the stage is a production stage.

Choose Rerun for stages where approving an outdated version would be a real risk (e.g. legal or compliance sign-off), and Skip for stages where re-review on every minor version bump would just create noise.
