Add and reorder workflow stages
A workflow template is made up of an ordered sequence of stages. This article covers adding new stages and reordering existing ones.
Adding a stage
- Open a template in the builder and switch to the Stages view (the default view).
- At the bottom of the stage list, click Add Production Stage or Add Approval Stage:
- A Production Stage is for work being done on the asset (design, editing, mixing, etc.) — it's advanced by an assignee rather than approved by a reviewer.
- An Approval Stage is for review/sign-off — it closes based on reviewer decisions.
- The new stage is appended to the end of the sequence and gets a position label (P1, A2, etc.) based on its order and type.
Each stage card's type switcher (Production Stage / Approval Stage) at the top of the card lets you change a stage's type after it's added, though switching type resets the type-specific settings (reviewers, decision/advancement mode) for that stage.
Reordering stages
There is currently no drag-and-drop or move-up/move-down control for reordering stages once they've been added — new stages are always appended to the end of the list. If you need a stage in a different position, delete it (and any stages that need to move) and re-add them in the order you want, then reconfigure their settings.
The one exception is within the Actions panel of a stage: individual actions inside "On stage start" / "On stage complete" can be dragged to reorder or move between the two sections. That does not reorder the stages themselves.
Viewing stage order
Switch to the Flow view (toggle above the stage list) to see the stages laid out as a flow diagram, which makes the current order and any "after another stage" activation chains easier to follow at a glance.
