Create a custom role and set permissions
Custom roles let you define exactly what a set of members can see and do. This article covers creating a role and configuring its permissions.
Creating a role
- Go to Admin Console → People → Roles.
- Click New Role.
- Enter a Role Name and, optionally, a Description.
- Choose a starting point:
- Click one of the preset buttons — Blank, Admin, Team Member, Reviewer (see Use role presets), or
- If you already have other custom roles, use Copy from role to start from one of their permission sets.
- Work through the permission categories listed down the left side (Projects, Folders, Assets, Review, Workflows, Boards, Actions, Tags, Members, Groups, Roles, Statuses, Schema, Mail Settings, Workspace, AI Usage, Audit, Pages — see Understand the current permission categories). Click a category to open it, then toggle individual permissions on or off, or use the All toggle at the top of the panel to grant or revoke every permission in that category at once.
- The counter above the permission list shows how many of the total permissions are currently granted.
- Confirm to save the role.
If you already have permissions selected and then apply a different preset or copy from another role, a confirmation dialog warns you that doing so will overwrite your current selections.
Editing or deleting a custom role
- Click Permissions on a custom role's row to reopen the same editor and adjust its permissions.
- Click the trash icon to delete a custom role.
Predefined roles (Admin, Team Member, Reviewer) can't be edited or deleted — click Permissions on their row to view what they grant.
