Standard files vs interactive proofs

Edoro distinguishes between plain working files and interactive proofs that support commenting and review. This article explains the difference and when each applies.

Working files

A working file is a plain asset — a reference document, source file, or anything else that doesn't need to go through review. Working files can be uploaded, versioned, and organized, but they don't carry a comment thread or a review workflow.

Interactive proofs

A proof is an asset that has been marked for review. Proofs support:

  • Commenting and annotation — reviewers can leave comments anchored to a page, a video timestamp, or a spot on a live webpage.
  • A workflow — proofs are attached to a review workflow with stages and reviewers.
  • Version history with carry-forward — unresolved comments from one version can be carried forward to the next so context isn't lost.

Switching between the two

Open an asset's action menu and choose Mark as proof or Mark as working file to switch its type — either from the asset's own menu, or in bulk from a multi-select. Marking one or more assets as proof prompts you to attach (or auto-apply) a review workflow; marking a proof back to a working file leaves the file itself untouched and simply removes it from the review flow.

Choosing which one to use

Use a working file for source material, references, or anything that doesn't need sign-off. Use a proof for anything reviewers or clients need to comment on, discuss, and approve through a workflow.
