Stage Bottleneck
The Stage Bottleneck card on the VR Dashboard tracks which workflow stage is slowing a project down the most. This article covers how to read the card and what it means for your team.
This is a read-only metric tile — it reflects completed workflow stages automatically.
What it measures
Stage Bottleneck groups every completed workflow stage by its name and calculates the average dwell time (from activation to completion) for each named stage, across all your workflows. It then surfaces the stage with the longest average dwell time.
How to read it
- The headline number is the longest average dwell time, in days, and which stage it belongs to.
- A warn marker appears past 5 days, and critical past 10.
- Below it, a ranked breakdown lists each named stage with its average duration and how many times it ran, so you can see the full picture rather than just the worst offender.
- The card needs at least 10 completed stages across any name before it shows a value.
Why it matters
Unlike Review Cycle Time, which averages across all stages, this card pinpoints the specific named stage where work sits longest — turning a vague "reviews are slow" observation into a targeted place to fix (a specific stage, team, or step in your workflow template).
